I have only a personal opinion to offer. I am an "older woman" (almost 61) that finds this topic very interesting. I have noticed that almost all of the men in my age range select their age preference for younger women. Some of these are really funny (male 59 looking for female 25-38)!! It is difficult for me to understand---I would want someone who shared most of my life experiences (and at least my generation!)---but it appears that men my age are still most interested in a woman's appearance, and presumably younger women are more attractive.
Having said this, I personally would not want to marry someone significantly younger than me. Five to eight years at most. I also wouldn't want someone significantly older than me. Women live longer than men, and I'd hate to wait 22 years for my special someone, only to have them "leave" after a few years of marriage. Of course, we cannot know the future. However, I would prefer someone younger rather than older, taking this fact into consideration. I'd have a better chance of him being around for awhile, just as the male looking for a younger woman has a better chance of her being young-looking.
What is really interesting is that I look and act so much younger than I am and have consistently been told I look 10-20 years younger! But because I have honestly listed my age, very few men would be interested, even if they are older than me! All of this would certainly cause dismay if I didn't know that God is in charge of my life and He knows what is right for me. I pray that His will be done in my life, even if it means I will remain single. Hopefully, "my man" would feel the same way.

Well, I've read this thread and have to say we might as well agree that older men tend to prefer younger women, and that as much as we don't want to admit it, appearance DOES count! Sorry if this is shallow, but the truth (as they say) hurts. This is the real world and you can cloak it in all the Bible verses and Bible stories you want, but if you don't look like Barbie and are over 40, you might as well resign yourself to being alone and just do volunteer work for the rest of your life. Maybe you'll (we'll) be real lucky and find some 80 year old guy who needs a caregiver!! Oh boy, I can hardly wait!!!

Yes, Nanette, that was my thought precisely, that some people are looking for sponsors. I used to work for Immigration Canada and they were always on the lookout for that kind of thing.

Some members of this site make it clear to me that they are here looking for a sponsor... someone to sponsor them in the U.S. or sponsor their educational finances. I write them and tell them this is a dating site and that if they are reported for asking for money or sponsorship, their accounts will be removed. But I suspect when men half one's age contact you, that they are simply looking for sponsorship and maybe trying to get away with it. I suggest everyone, male and female, be careful of this. - Nannette
